108.02 - INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR The following activities are prohibited by members while on duty: 1. Unlawful behavior, gambling, quarrelsome conduct, lewd or indecent activity. 2. Threats or acts of physical violence against members of the public, coworkers, or other department members or city employees. 3. Sexual activity to include the possession or use of printed or audiovisual material that is sexual in nature. 4. Abusive behavior, hazing, or harassment of coworkers or members of the public. Horseplay, practical jokes, and other disruptive behavior are also prohibited. 5. Use of department supplies, tools, and material to clean or repair personal vehicles or property. 6. Alteration or modification or vehicles, apparatus, buildings, computers, or items of equipment owned or operated by the department without the Fire Chiefs authorization. 7. Acceptance or solicitation of gifts, rewards, or fees for services incidental to the performance of one's duty. In addition, no member shall be required to make a donation to any person or organization as a condition of employment. 8. Campaigning for or against any elected official. 9. Publicly criticizing the official actions or orders of a superior officer. Nor may a member publicly speak disrespectfully of the department or its members. 10. Recommending or endorsing specific products, trade names, or businesses. 11. Conducting personal business or performing any activity for which the member will receive any form of compensation from anyone other than the City of Darien. 12. Permanently parking or storing personal vehicles, trailers, campers, tractors, boats, and so forth, on department property. Making a false statement in any official communication or in conversation with another member or citizen. 13. Performing any act or making any statement, oral or written, about one's immediate supervisor, intending to destroy discipline and good order. 14. Performing any act or making any statement, oral or written, about one's coworkers, intending to destroy good morale, good order, or working relationships with coworkers. 15. Displaying insolence or indifference or evading duty during an emergency incident. Any member found to be guilty of this offense shall be relieved of duty immediately. 16. All members shall, on duty, devote all of their time to the business of the fire department. Part-time business cannot be transacted while on duty. This includes not using department telephone lines for business purposes. 17. Outside employment of personnel, during off-duty hours, shall not interfere with their fire department duties. 18. Members shall not engage in outside work while on sick leave from the fire department. This shall include self-employment. |
