104.00 - MEDIA RELATIONS Statements to the media, news releases, and media campaigns must be approved by the Fire Chief or other authorized person prior to their release, except as provided below. 1. An incident commander is authorized to provide the media with general details concerning an incident. 2. Communications personnel are authorized to provide the media with a list of incidents. This information shall be limited to dates, times, and locations of incidents. 3. Information pertaining to the cause and origin of the incident may be released by the Incident Commander unless the incident has been turned over to the Fire Marshal Division for investigation. In this case only the Fire Marshal or the fire marshal's designated representative may release details of the incident. 4. Information relating to personnel matters, department policy, department litigation, or other sensitive matters shall be released only by the Fire Chief or their designated representative. |
